On Tuesday, Balaklava CWA proudly re-opened its refurbished rooftop clock.
The clock was donated by a Mr J Spillane back in 1963, as apparently the ladies of the Spillane family were very active members in the early days of the CWA branch.
As the clock hadn’t worked ‘for as long as everyone could remember,’ it was sent to Semaphore to be cleaned, re-faced, and have the mechanisms fixed.
Did you know there are no numbers on the clock? Instead the letters BALAKLAVA CWA are printed around the face – I didn’t know this!
The clock was hard wired into the building by local Craig Goldney and will adjust automatically when daylight saving starts.
