Bungaree Station commemorated its 175th anniversary with a barrow relay “Of sheep and vines”, attracting a large crowd as it travelled along The Riesling Trail from Sevenhill to Barinia then on to Bungaree on Saturday.
The event was a re-enactment of a similar trek 175 years ago to collect vine cuttings from Sevenhill Cellars for planting at Bungaree and highlighted the important role the station played in the development of the district.
About 50 friends, family and supporters took part in the 25 kilometre trek, which began with a blessing of vine cuttings by Brother John May.
The cuttings were then placed in a wheelbarrow accompanied by a gift of wine and a book on the history of Sevenhill Cellars.
