Doris and Alan Helps from Mallala celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary recently at the Mallala bowling club with a group of friends from the winter bowling group.
Afternoon tea was provided by the club with a celebratory cake a main feature.
In 1947, Alan Helps, aged 18, met Doris Taylor who was just 16 at the time. They were on the train when he was going to Thebarton Technical School and Doris to Nailsworth Girls Technical School at Enfield.
Alan mentioned the difficulty he encountered navigating the often muddy Taylors Road on his faithful old pushbike when courting Doris.
