A public meeting will be held this Sunday at Port Parham following a proposal for community land at the popular seaside town to be excised into the Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary.
Port Parham Sports and Social Club secretary, Alvin Jenkin, says the meeting, which starts at 1pm at the club, has been called to consider the implications of a proposal from the South Australian Government’s Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) to acquire community land at Port Parham, including a large proportion of recreational land which is leased to the Port Parham Sports and Social Club (PPSSC) by Adelaide Plains Council (APC).
The PPSSC was concerned the land acquisition will reduce access to what was once an oval, as well as walking tracks, and also limit rear access to properties in the area.
As such the committee opposes any acquisition by DEWNR of community land and is urging the APC to negotiate with DEWNR accordingly.
