The Two Wells War Memorial Garden, dedicated to the fallen soldiers of Afghanistan, hosted the families of the young men who are remembered there on Saturday, September 9.
Two Wells RSL president, Tony Flaherty, welcomed 18 families who travelled from all over Australia to the picturesque memorial where they were greeted by fine weather for the poignant occasion.
The roll of honour was read, the last post was played, a minute’s silence was observed and the Ode of Remembrance recited.
However, this was not a sad moment in time, rather a warm embrace from a community who preserves the memory of each of their sons with a memorial stone, paid for by families in the local area who have little or no connection with the soldier whose name rests upon it.
