Application lodged for plains power station

Energy retailer, Alinta Energy, has officially lodged its Development Application with the State Government for a power station at Reeves Plains.

A community information night will be held at the Mallala Football Club rooms this Thursday November 9, from 5pm – 6:30pm, with Alinta representatives and specialist consultants presenting on the proposed “Reeves Plains Power Station”, followed by questions from the general public.

The application proposes the construction of a 300 MW capacity gas fired peaking power station, comprising six gas and liquid fuel turbines, a 275kV sub-station (including switchyard, switch-room and control building), transformers, gas receiving station, diesel storage/delivery system, water treatment plant (and water storages), wastewater treatment facilities (including an evaporation basin), ancillary buildings (including an office/control building, amenities building and workshop/warehouse) and associated infrastructure.

The proposal also includes internal roads, carparking, security fencing, security lighting, fire fighting system, drainage works and landscaping.

The facility would be connected to the existing electricity grid (via the existing 275kV transmission line that traverses the site) and would include connections with the existing gas pipeline and SA Water pipeline.

Access to the site would be from Days Road, which would be sealed from Redbanks Road to the entrance gate and include an upgrade of the Days Road and Redbanks Road intersection.

Local Fischer resident, Crystal Molloy, who has vowed to move if the project goes ahead, is urging all interested people to attend the meeting.
