The residents of the small community of Grace Plains have decided to create a permanent memorial to the history of the area decimated by the Pinery fire, to be erected at the site of the old tennis courts.
The Grace Plains area, known as Moquet Lee, is a memorial to Fred Nairn and the Nairn family, who gifted a substantial amount of land to the community.
Fred was killed in WWI, but local residents are keen to preserve the Nairn legacy and history of the site that was decimated in the 2015 Pinery fire.
The memorial is intended to be three-tiered, incorporating not only the Moquet Lee area, but the Pinery fire and Grace Plains cemetery that adjoins the old courts, the anticipated site of the memorial.
