Mellissa Preusker, 30 of Hope Valley and Josie Rains, 15 of North Booborowie, have been announced winners of the 2017 Mid North Country Music Scholarship, giving them the opportunity to attend the prestigious CMAA (Country Music Association of Australia) Academy of Country Music in Tamworth next year.
An initiative of Burra Country Music Events Inc, the scholarships, worth a total of $6000, were enabled through the collaboration of the Burra CME, Port Pirie Harnessing Young Talent and Laura Events.
Talent quests held during the three festivals enable entrants to showcase their talents with the chance of being selected to attend the academy.
The academy offers 28 students aged 14 to 54 a unique opportunity to create a career in country music.
Following the Burra AGL Country Music Festival, committee members from each event met in Laura on the weekend to make the final selections, which were announced this week.
