The first meeting for 2018 was held in the Barbara J Long room in Clare on Tuesday, January 16. President, Marie Spinks, welcomed members and one visitor.
The “Song of Australia” was sung acknowledging Australia Day, followed by, ‘You are my sunshine” for Barry and Judy Budarick’s wedding anniversary.
Barry also shared a couple of jokes (all clean) before general business and the usual sumptuous morning tea and chit chat!
Guest speaker so-ordinator, Barry Budarick, introduced guest speaker, Megan Lewcock (grand daughter of Dorothy), to speak about her trip last year to Cambodia with six teachers and 14 students.
She was well prepared for her talk with slides and showed everyone we do live in a beautiful place when compared with some of the Asian countries which are very poor.
The students were there to help build a couple of living huts and also worked in the schools.
They took many teddies made by Clare people, visited the Siep War Museum and killing fields, and Anchora Silk farm where they were fascinated by an ancient weaving technique.
Megan also took Probus members inside many of the touristy destinations as well as giving them a more intimate picture of the friendly Cambodian people.
