Travelling through regional SA, the Olympic torch arrived in Clare last Wednesday from Port Pirie, carried by athletes and escorted by South Australian police officers.
The Special Olympic Athlete National Games are running in Adelaide this week from Monday to Friday, with 1000 athletes with an intellectual disability competing in 11 sports.
Sports include athletics, track and field, basketball, bocce, ten pin bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, swimming and tennis.
Athlete Kim Flannighan, and Clare’s senior constable, Mark Hill, kicked off the relay at the Clare oval, and ran two kilometres through Clare’s business district.
