The recent announcement of the closure of the Booborowie Hotel has roused mixed emotion from the residents of Booborowie, with a majority expressing sadness, and unexpected shock that it has closed.
It was announced through Alf’s Booborowie Hotel facebook page on April 6, stating “Due to a lack of business the Booborowie Hotel will be closing its doors for the last time on the 26th May 2018.”
The post prompted a flurry of comments from past and present locals with the general consensus being that the hotel could still be a viable business should it be sold off.
Comments included, “…once the pub goes the town is gone, sad day”, and “I am not a drinker, but losing the pub is bad news, for any town.”
The Plains Producer attempted contact with the current owner a number of times but they declined to comment.
