THE first summer season for Clare and Gilbert Valleys swimming pools under the new YMCA management has drawn to a close with the two facilities recording outstanding attendances since opening in November 2017.
The combined attendance number recorded between facilities at The Valleys Lifestyle Centre and Riverton was 20,773 over the season.
Activities included recreational swimming, swimming lessons, school events and education programs.
The YMCA assumed management of the facilities on July 1, 2017 and YMCA recreation manager, Ben Whalan, said the success was a result of the effort and commitment of local staff teams at each facility, combined with some consistent warm weather over the holiday period.
“We provided employment for 11 local people over the two facilities this season, with all but two of these aged between 18 and 25,” he said.
“The enthusiasm and effort of these staff teams was outstanding and helped create a really positive environment at the pools.”
