Cheers and tears of victory for Gennikay

ABOUT 90 seconds of racing yielded almost as many emotions for Balaklava’s Sam Tiller on Thursday afternoon, when the Phillip Stokes trained filly, Gennikay, stormed down the outside to break its maiden at Pakenham racecourse.

The horse is named after her late mother, Genni Edwards, who passed away about two years ago.

After three previous career starts, including two agonisingly close second places, the three-year-old begun in inauspicious fashion at the back of the pack.
